Memorial City Plaza: Skybridge Renovation

Project Overview

For the renovation of the skybridge at Memorial City Plaza, one of west Houston’s busiest office and retail districts, Contract Fabricating Services fabricated and erected new structural steel trusses for the pedestrian bridge connecting the campus. The skybridge carries steady daily foot traffic between office towers and parking, so the work had to be precise, safe, and completed without shutting down the campus around it.

Our Scope

  • Steel trusses: Shop-fabricated steel trusses with top and bottom chords and diagonal web members, built to carry the skybridge across the span.
  • Crane erection: Each truss was rigged and lifted by crane into position above an active parking structure and roadway.
  • Connections to existing structure: Field connections tie the new trusses into the existing bridge supports at each end.
  • Field installation: Our crews set, aligned, and completed connections at height.

The Challenge

Renovating a skybridge means working over people, cars, and an operating campus. Every truss had to be fabricated to fit existing supports exactly, because there’s no room to adjust a span once it’s in the air. Each lift required careful rigging, traffic control, and coordination with EE Reed to keep the surrounding garage and roadways safe and open throughout the work.

The Result

A renovated skybridge delivered safely over an active campus. The project is one of several we have completed at Memorial City for EE Reed, including work at Memorial City Plaza buildings 800 and 820 and the Memorial City parking garage renovation, a relationship built on doing complex work right the first time.
